On Saturday 18 May 2024, coinciding with the celebration of International Museum Day, the exhibition entitled “The Unknown Masterpiece? The Donation”, curated by the President of the Artistic Committee, Professor Manos Stephanidis. The exhibition will include approximately 60 works of historical importance from the museum’s collections, works from the award-winning works of the first Biennale of Larissa as well as works from the donation of a total of 22 works by private individuals and artists who donated them on the initiative of the new Artistic Committee and especially the President Manos Stefanidis, in order to strengthen the collections of the Municipal Gallery of Larissa – George I. Katsigras Museum.
The aim of the exhibition is to assemble a representative group of works that will illustrate the passage from the 20th to the 21st century and from traditional art to the avant-garde. This section will provide a new introduction to the general public to the Museum’s un-exhibited treasures. The exhibition will be presented in the Irene Katsigra Hall.
The Municipal Gallery of Larissa-Museum G. I. Katsigra would like to thank the donors who willingly offered the works and in particular: Mrs. Dora Koukoulommatis for the offer to the Larissa Art Gallery of two paintings by her father, the late Spyros Koukoulommatis (1917 – 1995) and Mr. Elias Faeinos for the corresponding offer of the painting by his father, the late Vangelis Faeinos (1918 – 1985), Mr. Pantelis Tsatsis, director of “Art Thessaloniki”, for the kind offer of his works: Dimitris Dokatzis (1958 – 2017), Thanasis Totsikas, Manolis Polymeris and Pantelis Tsatsis, Professor Theodoros Papagiannis for the loan to the museum of his imposing sculpture, the Hellenic Diaspora Foundation of Patras for the offer of the ceramic sculpture of Mema Kalogioritos and the following distinguished artists for their donation: Irini Kana, Thanasis Makris, Savvas Poursanidis , Kostas Dio , Maria Ktistopoulou, Nektarios Kontovrakis, Stathis Vatanidis , Christos Antonaropoulos, Yannis Asimakopoulos, Dimitris Sevastakis, Katerina Ribatsiou, Sotiris Adrianos, Andreas Devetzis, Manos Ioannidis, Nikos Kasseris and Kallis Kastori.
The event, which includes known and unknown works from the storerooms of our Museum in dialogue with the works of the above donation, is dedicated to the memory of the painter and former President of the Artistic Committee Kyriakos Katzourakis.
