In “Callas Veiled,” Manos Ioannidis reinvents portraiture as ritual. The diva does not simply appear—she emerges through rhythm, through absence. Her face, sliced into vertical wooden partitions, pulses between concealment and revelation. This is not the Callas of staged glory; it’s the inner Callas—echoing, broken, holy. The gold isn’t glamour—it’s veil. The carved plywood turns light into grief, shadow into structure. Manos doesn’t depict her voice. He invokes it. The result is architectural, sacred, and shattering. Like the arias she sang—nothing is whole, yet nothing is missing.
